I wrote this as the forward to my Poetic Theology for Artists series. It didn’t make it into the book, but the message seemed very current.
Jesus went up on the mountain
and began to teach.
One of the sad things
in recent days
is how often
that sermon,
the centre of Christian
moral and ethical
teaching
is either
ignored
or glossed over.
It has been a long time since
I even heard
"Do unto others
as you would have others
do unto you."
And how about this one:
"Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called
children of God."
Whenever Jesus uses the word
"peace'
he is not talking about the
Western idea of peace.
