Alleluia, Christ is Risen! After showing up and being focused, you will find yourself getting busy. And the most important thing in that moment is to do your job. We have the misfortune of living in an age where people are credentialed but not qualified. They have a piece of paper on their wall, or a title, or an office, but they do not have the knowledge or skills to do the job they were hired to do. They have theories or ideologies, but no practical knowledge on how things really work. I see this in the arts all the time. Art schools are creating activists, not teaching people the craft. I'm painfully aware of this, because I am qualified, but not credentialed, and those with credentials, but no knowledge of scripture or ability to teach and lead, regularly put me in my place. It's why I avoid religious gatherings. And this is why you have to do your job and do your job well. You have to get up every day and do it. I write every day. And when someone asks me to do something I do it to the best of my ability. Two years ago, I had an experience that often happens when you hire someone from church. I hired someone to do a job, they didn't do the job, made it a "he said, she said" drama, and walked away with about over $1000, and left me with a mess that I am still dealing with today. Don't do that. Get it in writing, be truthful, be a servant, and do your job. If you are a creative professional, you are hired to serve and produce. People are counting on you. In the current environment, a person who is focused, present, and doing a good job puts you far above everyone else who is looking at their phone and sending emails to the boss about inter-office politics. And yes, sometimes doing your job sucks. Yes, sometimes you have to follow through and it isn't fun. Hard work is not always fun. But hard work is incredibly rewarding, fulfilling, and life changing. Many of the artists I know who are struggling, just need to show up and do the work. Trust me, it will change your life. He Never Fails, +Christ And as a post script, these Friday emails are my job. I've been showing up and doing it every week since 2006, God honors it and provides. Thanks for being my audience.
